Most of the collection circulates for periods of two weeks each and books can be requested from anywhere in California through the inter-loan library services provided by most Public Libraries in California.
Materials can be copied for a small fee, save those that are protected by copyrights, or due to its age cannot be photocopied, such as the newspapers and some of the periodicals in the collection. The Library also holds a vast collection of old photographs and documents dealing with the civic life of the Portuguese in the State. All books and newspapers can be consulted in the premises.
Microfilm of the various old newspapers can also be viewed in the Library, however the microfilms are not allowed to leave the premises. Video cassettes can circulate for periods of a maximum of three days free of charge. Reference services are available by appointment only. Tours of the Library can be arranged by appointment with a maximum of 30 individuals in attendance each time.
