    U.P.E.C. MUSEUM

    The Museum section is located in a separate area across the hallway from the library and it houses pictures, artifacts, documents and memorabilia depicting UPEC activities at all levels, including both fraternal and civic involvement in the first one hundred years of its existence.

    In addition, it has on display a variety of personal objects brought over by immigrants from Portugal and whalers of the Azores Islands, some dating back to 1854.

    Featured are the original velvet robes of ritual initiation ceremonies, the original railroad trunk

    used by the Secretary containing regalia, accounting and minutes books, and the first drum of the UPEC Band, as well as a collection of Portuguese coins, a gift of the late James H. Guill.

    Most of the items and photographs in display were donated by immigrants and some of their descendents, as well as gathered by Carlos Almeida, Founder of the J.A. Freitas Library and its Director for 32 years.

    The museum is open to visitors on week days between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM.

    A Bi-lingual self guide is available to visitors explaining the exhibits.
